Ichabod football inks 18 for 2009 signing class

(Updated 12:35 p.m. -- Friday, Feb. 6) Ichabod head football coach announced 18 signees who will join the Washburn football team as part of national signing day. The Ichabods finished the 2008 season with a 6-5 record recording their fifth consecutive winning season.

Matt Kobbeman • WR • 6-1, 180, Topeka, Kan. • Shawnee Heights High School
Recorded 801 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns on 54 receptions averaging 14.8 yards per catch and rushed for 43 yards on eight carries … a 5A all-state selection as well as all-area top 11 pick two times … named all-league and all-city two times … also had 27 tackles and two interceptions as a senior … averaged 27.6 yards per kickoff return collecting 470 yards on 17 returns and averaged 23.6 yards per punt return and two touchdowns on seven returns … a three-year letterman in basketball … a second team all-city pick and a second team all-league pick … son of Bob and Pamela Kobbeman … sister Wendy was a three-year letterwinner on the Lady Blues volleyball team … undecided on major.

Recorded 148 tackles in 11 games with an interceptions and htree fumble recoveries en route to first team all-state honors and the Class 3A Defensive Player of the Year … named Reno Gazette Journal's Defensive Player of the Year after leading the state of Nevada in tackles per game … also rushed for 263 yards on 29 carries averaging 9.1 yards per attempt with seven touchdowns … as a junior he was selected Team MVP, first team all-league at linebacker and first team all-state at linebacker …  as a sophomore in the Nevada 3A Division he was a first team all-league linebacker as a junior and first team all-state as a junior and the Nevada 3A Defensive Player of the Year in 2007 after recording 118 tackles, seven pass break ups, four recovered fumbles, three sacks, two interceptions and a forced fumble … won the snow skiing slalom junior nationals in 2004 and finished in the top 20 in the World's Giant slalom competition in 2004 … son of Philip and Jacqueline Macken … anticipated major is business.
