Box Score LAWRENCE, Kan. -- The Washburn Ichabod men's basketball team outrebounded the No. 2-ranked Kansas Jayhawks while forcing them into 23 turnovers in a 92-74 exhibition loss in Allen Fieldhouse on Tuesday night.
The Ichabods trailed 50-34 at the break after shooting 12 of 36 from the field compared to 61 percent (19 of 31) for the Jayhawks.
Starting the second half, the Ichabods used a 9-2 run over a 3:01 stretch to cut the lead to nine at 52-43 with 17:01 to go after five points from
Cameron Wiggins and two each from
David Salach and
Brady Skeens.
Kansas pushed its lead back out to 16 with 12:09 to play in the game at 67-51 before the Ichabods outscored the Jayhawks 12 to 7 with Wiggins scoring nine points cutting the lead back to 11 at 74-63 with 7:45.
The Jayhawks then responded with an 11-0 run to push the lead up to 22 with 4:26 to play before the Ichabods came back with an 11-7 run over their own to finish the game cutting the final margin back to 18 at 92-74.
Wiggins finished with 14 points on 5 of 11 shooting and 4 of 7 shooting from 3-point range and went 5 of 8 from the field in the second half leading the team in scoring.
Isaac Clark had 11 points and a team-high five assists off the bench and
Randall Smith had 10.
KU was led by Frank Mason III's 21 points adding 10 rebounds and nine assists. Svi Mykhailluk had 16 followed by Josh Jackson's 14 and Landen Lucas had 10.
Washburn outrebounded the Jayhawks 45 to 44 including 19 offensive rebounds turning into 16 second chance points. The Ichabods also forced the Jayhawks into 23 turnovers converting the miscues 23 points for Washburn.
Washburn finished 28 of 73 from the field for a 38 percent average after hitting 16 of 37 shots in the second half. KU finished 32 of 59 from the field for a 54 percent.
The Ichabods will return to action continuing their Big 12 exhibition slate at Kansas State in Manhattan on Friday.
