Brad Shaffer - Baseball (1985-88)
Brad Shaffer, Washburn’s all-time leader in wins, pitched on the Ichabods baseball team from 1985-88 and was inducted into the Washburn Athletic Hall of Fame in 2003-04.
Shafer left Washburn with 26 wins, a record that is still standing through the 2020 season. His junior and senior years he earned NAIA all-district first team honors and his senior year he was named to the all-Central States Intercollegiate Conference team.
During his four years playing under coach Steve Anson, Shafer went 26-6 with a 3.88 ERA. In 10 starts his junior year he went 8-1 with a 3.00 ERA and the following year he had nine wins and a career-high 58 strikeouts.
He finished his career third in strikeouts with 153 and his nine wins in 1988 was tied for the most in single-season history until 2000. Shafer was seventh in WU history with 199 1/3 innings pitched.
