Gene Powell - Tennis (1952-55)
Three-time conference champion Gene Powell played tennis at Washburn from 1952-55 and was inducted into the Washburn Athletic Hall of Fame in 1994-95.
Powell was the Central Intercollegiate Conference champion in No. 1 singles his final three years and he represented the school at the NAIA national tournament twice.
Powell graduated in 1955 with both a bachelor’s degree and law degree. He continued to play tennis and earned the country’s No. 7 ranking in both the age 55 and age 60 singles group.
