Latisha Yarnell - Women’s Basketball and Softball (1985-88)
Latisha Yarnell was a two-sport All-American at Washburn, playing softball and basketball from 1985-88. She was inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame in 1998-99.
Yarnell earned first team NAIA All-America honors in softball in 1986 and was an honorable mention choice for the Lady Blues basketball team in 1986-87.
On the diamond the first baseman hit .328 as a senior and in 1986 she set school records with 506 putouts, which stood until 2008. She also legged out a record-setting 10 triples, which still stands through the 2020 season.
She was a first team all-Central States Intercollegiate Conference pick in 1985 and she earned honorable mention in 1986. In 1986 and 1988 she earned all-district honors.
As a basketball player, Yarnell earned all-CSIC honors three times as a point guard. She had a school-record 85 steals in 1986-87 and then the next year she had 95. That total stands as the fourth-most at WU through the 2019-20 season. Her 212 career steals is also third most as a Lady Blue.
As of 2020, her 1,558 career points is the sixth-most in school history and her 715 rebounds is seventh.
Yarnell earned CSIC freshman of the year honors in 1984-85.
