Marion McDonald - Men's Basketball (1951-60) and Baseball (1957-65)
Marion McDonald was the Washburn head men’s basketball coach from 1951-60 and head baseball coach from 1957-65. He led the Ichabod basketball squad to a conference championship in his first season with an overall record of 17-9. His basketball coaching career ended during the 1959-60 season when he suffered a heart attack and Dick Godlove took over to coach the final six games.
Although he couldn't coach basketball any more, he remained the head baseball coach for nine seasons and accrued a record of 79-74. He coached two MLB draftees, Jerry Roberson and Frank PIckens.
McDonald was inducted into the Washburn Athletic Hall of Fame in 1977. He was also inducted into the NAIA’s Baseball Hall of Fame for his role in establishing baseball within the NAIA, and for his work in establishing the NAIA’s national tournament.
