Robert Cobean - Track and Field (1930-35)
Robert Cobean was a member of the Washburn track and field team in the early 1930s and was inducted into the Washburn Athletic Hall of Fame in 1990-91.
The tall and lanky athlete excelled at high hurdles but also placed high in the pole vault and high jump. Cobean set the all-time WU record in the 120-yard high hurdles with a time of 16.1 seconds in 1931. In 1933 he became team captain.
Cobean finished his bachelor’s and law degrees from Washburn in five and a half years and served Wellington, Kansas, his hometown, as a lawyer and judge.
