Lady Blues back in national top 10

2/7/2012 3:01:00 PM

USA Today ESPN National Coaches' Poll

The Lady Blues earned their highest ranking of the season with a No. 9 spot in the USA Today ESPN National Coaches' Poll release Tuesday. This is the second time Washburn has been in the top 10 this year after earning a No. 10 spot in the week 1 poll.

Washburn won twice last week to move its record to 20-3 and its winning streak to 12 straight. The Lady Blues are the highest ranked team in the region after Northeastern State dropped from 10th to 14th. MIAA foe Pittsburg State is 10th and Emporia State is 20th.

The Lady Blues have been ranked in all 11 polls this year. They were left out of the final poll last year but have been ranked in 151 of the last 152 polls, dating back to week three of the 2002-03 season. This is the highest ranking since week 8 of last year.

Washburn returns to action Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. against Central Missouri.
