Aidan Battle have been named the Hy-Vee Student-Athletes of the Week for their performances in Saturday's season-opening 20-17 win over Truman State at Yager Stadium.
Justin Lewis completed 33 of 42 passes for 352 yards and two touchdowns in his Ichabod debut. Lewis completed 20 consecutive passes, breaking an MIAA and a Washburn single-game record. Lewis completed passes to eight different receivers in the win.
Early in the fourth quarter against Truman, Washburn extended its lead when kicker Aidan Battle drilled a 51-yard field goal, one shy of the school record of 52 set in 1972 by Russ Hill against Northern Colorado and Charles Goodnight against Emporia State in 1985. The boot stretched the Ichabod margin to 20–10. A 37-yard field goal by Battle, tied the game at 10–10 midway through the second half. Overall, he was 2 of 2 on field goals and 2 of 2 on extra points.
