Mike Amend coached his fifth season as an assistant coach at Washburn in 2013 after coaching high school baseball since the 2002 season.
He spent the previous five seasons coaching high school baseball at Central Valley High School and North Central High School in Washington. He started his high school career as the head coach at Franklin High School in 2002 and then at Joshua Springs High School in 2003.
Amend coached American Legion baseball in Washington for three years, bringing his teams to the state tournament every season. In 2008, his team finished fifth and in 2007 it finished third.
Amend also served as an associate scout for the Texas Rangers from 1998-00.
He is a 1999 graduate of Eastern Washington where he earned a bachelor’s degree in biology. He earned a bachelor’s in secondary education from EWU the next year and earned his master’s degree in educational leadership from Washburn in May 2010.
Amend is a 1995 graduate of Freeman High School in Freeman, Wash. He played two years of varsity baseball for the the Scotties and then wrestled at Pacific Lutheran University for his first two years of college.
The Spokane, Wash., native resides in Topeka with his wife, Megan and son, Easton.
