Doug Hamilton was named the Ichabod head golf coach Sept. 12, 2002.
In his nine seasons at Washburn, Hamilton has led the Washburn golf program to five MIAA Championships and seven NCAA National Appearances with five NCAA Central Regional Titles. During the 2007 NCAA National Championship Tournament, Hamilton led the Ichabods to a school-best fifth place finish - the best finish for an MIAA school at the Division II Championships.
During the summer of 2009, Hamilton coached the United States Junior Golf World Cup team to a second place finish at the Toyota Golf Junior World Cup in Toyota City, Japan.
In his first year at the helm of the Ichabod golf program, Hamilton led the Ichabods to their first MIAA Championship, their third NCAA Regional appearance and the school’s first ever national tournament appearance.
He has been named the MIAA Coach of the Year five times and NCAA Central Regional Coach of the Year five times as well following the 2002-03, 2003-04, 2004-05, 2006-07 and 2007-08 seasons.
Entering his tenth season, Hamilton has led the Ichabods to 37 tournament wins with 33 individual tournament champions. The Ichabods have had 26 golfers receive all-MIAA honors. The Ichabod golf team has also had eight PING All-American selections and 17 all-region picks.
Directing a program which is equally committed in the classroom, the Ichabods have had 42 MIAA Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll members, four all-MIAA Academic Team members, two CoSIDA Academic all-district honorees and two CoSIDA Academic All-Americans and five Cleveland Golf Academic All-American selections. The Ichabods had the highest grade point average of all of the teams competing at the 2003 NCAA national championships.
He was a 1988 graduate of Pittsburg State University where he was a two-year member of the Gorilla basketball team and he also a member of the Pitt State golf team his senior season. He graduated from Washburn Rural High School in 1983.
Hamilton lives in Topeka with his wife Lisa and children Bailey, Jack and Kasey
