Washburn Hall of Fame - Don Dittemore

Don Dittemore
1933-37
Basketball 1933-37
Inducted 1988-89

Gritty and tough as a competitor, Don Dittemore used the most of his modest physical assets on the basketball court for the Ichabods from 1933-37. In 1988-89 he was inducted into the Washburn Athletic Hall of Fame.

After suffering a broken leg his senior year at Topeka High School, Dittemore came to Washburn and impressed everyone with his scoring and athleticism. In 1934-35, his sophomore year he earned all-Missouri Valley Conference honors as he led the league in scoring as a center.

Throughout his career he was amongst the top of the MVC in scoring with about 10 points a game and he was one of the early players to perfect the sky hook.

Teammate Joe Lovewell described Dittemore as “a gritty, never-quit athlete who used modest physical assets to the utmost.”

He graduated from WU with a bachelor’s degree and went on to teach and serve as principal in area schools.
