Peg Marmet coached the Washburn Ichabods and Lady Blues tennis teams from 1976 to 1999. In 1996-97 she was inducted into the WU Athletic Hall of Fame.
As coach of the women for 22 years from 1976-99 she had a 182-87 record and from 1977-99 she went 219-102 leading the men for 21 years. Overall she had a 401-189 record (.680).
In her first seasons as the Ichabods and Lady Blues head coach she went a combined 2-20, but after years of hard work and dedication, Marmet built the Washburn tennis program into one that competed on not only a conference level, but a regional and nation level as well.
Marmet holds her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in physical education from Kansas State and Emporia State, respectively.
She was the coach of the first MIAA championship team for Washburn as her Lady Blues won it in 1991. She was named NAIA District 10 women’s coach of the year in 1986 and District 10 men’s coach of the year in both 1989 and 1990. She was also named 1997 Midwest Region ITA co-coach of the year.
