Washburn Hall of Fame - Cecil Peterson

Cecil Peterson
Basketball 1930-34
Inducted 1980-81

Cecil Peterson played basketball for Washburn from 1930-34 and was inducted into the Washburn Athletic Hall of Fame in 1980-81.

Described as being short and stocky, Peterson played most of his first three years as a guard off the bench. The Washburn Review said of him, “Peterson hit baskets from all over the court. Time and time again he put the Ichabods ahead or evened the score with one of his sensational shots.”

His senior year he played forward and was named team captain.  During his four years the Ichabods went 26-36 and he coached the freshman team after his playing days were over. He graduated in 1934 and in 1948 he was elected president of the Washburn Alumni Association. In 1978 he established a basketball scholarship at WU.
