Perry Schmiedeler hit a pair of field goals of 24 and 27 yards and averaged 38.4 yards per punt on five attempts while rushing for two first downs on punt opportunities in Washburn's win over Missouri Western. He rushed for 26 yards on two carries. His first carry in the 1st quarter for 11 yards on a 4th and 10 was converted into a touchdown four plays later putting Washburn up 24-0. His 2nd rush of 15 yards on a 4th and 2 was capped by a 27-yard field goal as Washburn took a 27-3 lead into the break.
