For the second consecutive year, the Washburn men’s tennis doubles team took home the ITA Central Regionals championship title. The tandem of Alejandro Valarezo Plaza and Paul Haase were the No. 2 seed in the tournament bracket and received a bye in the first round. On the second day of competition, they defeated Southwest Baptist 8-1 and then won a tight match against Southeastern Oklahoma 9-7 to advance to the semifinals. Valarezo Plaza and Haase faced another team from Southwest Baptist and came out on top 6-3, 6-4. In the final against No. 1 seeded Southeastern Oklahoma, the match was pushed to a three set tiebreaker which was won by Washburn, 2-6, 6-3, (11-9). Valarezo Plaza was a member of the doubles team that won the championship last year.
