Peyton Lane – Sophomore – Kinesiology
When did you start competing in track and field? When did you start playing football? How did you get into those sports?
PL: I started playing football in fourth grade. My dad was a football coach and two of my uncles were football coaches. It was kind of just in the family and I always wanted to do it when I was little. Same thing for track and field, my dad was a coach and I would go to practice with him when I was little. I also did youth track meets since I was five years old.
Throughout your football/track and field career, who has influenced you the most?
PL: My dad. I was always looking up to him and he was always my coach. He always pushed me the hardest. I always wanted to impress him.
What has been your most exciting moment at Washburn?
PL: Freshman year in football, the team voted me co-freshman of the year. That was pretty exciting to have their respect. I broke the indoor record for pole vault last year so that was pretty cool.
You’re majoring in kinesiology. What do you plan on doing with your degree?
PL: I want to be trainer, maybe train athletes. I really want to own a gym and train athletes and have different kinds of groups, like yoga, high intensive training, weightlifting, and all kinds of different things.
Craziest thing on your bucket list?
PL: I want to fly a plane. My friend is a pilot and him and his dad have a small plane and they fly it around my hometown all the time. I’ve asked him if I could fly it around and he told me maybe I can sometime, but I’d probably have to take some classes before I could do that.
Go-to karaoke song?
PL: Our Song by Taylor Swift. We used to be karaoke at lunch in middle school- that’s probably the last time I did karaoke- but we would do that song every time. I still probably know all the lyrics.
What other interesting hobbies or interests do you have?
PL: Since quarantine, I’ve started playing golf a lot. Some of the guys on the team will go out a couple times a week. It’s just super fun, something I picked up a couple of months ago. I played when I was younger like junior golf, but I hadn’t played in like 10 years. It’s just fun to get out when it’s nice out.
