Raegan Hamm – Junior – Radiology
-When did you start playing softball? How did you get into it?
RH: When I was four in my hometown recreational league. I think my parents just put me into it and I just kept playing from there.

-How did you end up at Washburn?
RH: My freshman year, I went to Highland Community College to play softball there. Then, I transferred here after my freshman year just to go to school because I wanted to do the ultrasound program, so that’s what brought me here. [Head coach Brenda] Holladay contacted me when she heard that I was going to be coming to school here and we just had a meeting and I decided to play.

-What has been your most exciting moment in your career at Washburn?
RH: When we beat University of Central Oklahoma my sophomore year. They were ranked No. 1 or 2 in the nation. The team played a really good game so when we beat them, that was really good! It was a lot of fun!

-How do you typically prepare before taking the mound? Do you have any superstitions or unique routine?
RH: My warmup routine- the way I warm up my pitches- I go in the same order every single time. I don’t put on my armband that has how we call pitches on it until after I’m done warming up, right before I go out. When I’m with catcher Bri [Francis], we do the same handshake every inning before we go out.

-You mentioned that you came here for the ultrasound program. Is that the career path you’re wanting to take?
RH: I actually changed my mind. I’m in the x-ray program currently and I really really like it, so I’m not going to go on and do ultrasound any longer. I’m just going to do the x-ray part and get my bachelor’s in health service administration.

-If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?
RH: I love tropical places and I love cruises, so I would take a cruise to Bora Bora. It looks really pretty and the water is super clear.

-How many cruises have you been on? Where did you go?
RH: One. I was also supposed to go on another one back in July but it got cancelled so we rescheduled it for next July. My whole family is supposed to go on that one. The last one was just me and my mom. We were supposed to go to Jamaica and Mexico and another place I can’t remember, but our itinerary got switched around because our ship was having issues, so we ended up going to Costa Maya and Cozumel in Mexico.

-Craziest thing on your bucket list?
RH: I don’t really know if it’s crazy but I just wanna visit all of the 50 states. I think I’ve been to 19 or 20 of them.

-What other interesting hobbies or interests do you have?
RH: My mom and I started last summer doing the paint by number things. I’ve done a couple of those and they take a lot of time but I like doing it!
