Tim Collins

Washburn head soccer Tim Collins is entering his 13th season at the helm of the soccer program in 2015 leading it two NCAA regional tournaments, two MIAA Tournaments as well as the MIAA regular season title in the program’s fourth season in 2006. He’s the only coach the Ichabod program has ever known.

Collins was named the first head coach in Washburn history on Dec. 23, 2002 bringing experience and winning traditions from the high school ranks to the Washburn campus.

In his 13th season on the Washbun sideline, Collins has recorded a 90-114-32 (.450) record while leading the Washburn  program.

In 2013, the Ichabods reached the MIAA Tournament semfinals after a fourth-place finish in the conference race.

In 2008, Washburn won a school-record-tying 15 matches during the 2008 season and another NCAA second round tournament appearance as he led the team to a 15-7-2 record including four wins over nationally-ranked teams.

Collins led the Washburn team to the 2006 MIAA championship and the NCAA Tournament with a 15-1-6 record picking up MIAA Coach of the Year honors for the second straight season.

In 2004, the fruits of Collins’ labor turned Washburn into a second place conference team. The 2005 Washburn squad recorded the first winning season in Washburn’s history and Collins picked up MIAA Coach of the Year honors for the first time.

In his 12 seasons at the helm of the Ichabod program, he has coached 64 players who have earned all-MIAA honors including 11 first team selection. He has also coached two All-Americans, two MIAA MVPs, three CoSIDA Academic All-American and 24 all-region selections. He has also coached 162 Washburn soccer players who have received academic all-MIAA honors and 30 MIAA scholar athletes as well.

Collins’ enthusiasm has led to increased attendance at Washburn matches as the Ichabods led the NCAA Division II ranks in attendance in two seasons (2005 and 2007), including setting a then-Division II single-match attendance record of 2,071 against Southwest Baptist on Sept. 27, 2007.

Collins previously coached the Seaman boys team to a fourth-place 5A state finish and a regional championship after finishing second in the Centennial League race. Before coaching at Seaman, Collins headed the boys and girls programs at Topeka West High School for 10 years. In 2001, he coached the girls’ program to the Class 5A state championship. He also coached Charger teams to seven regional championships, two tournament championships and two state finalists. He was named the Topeka City Coach of the Year four times and the Kansas Coach of the Year once.

Since 1995 Collins has been the girls director of coaching for the Kansas State Olympic Development Program organizing tryouts and managing camps. Collins also has his National Class “B” Coaching License.

This fall, Collins will also be inducted into the Topeka West Athletics Hall of Fame as well as the Kansas State Youth Soccer Association Hall of Fame.

Collins is a 1991 graduate Ottawa University where he was a four-year letterwinner for the Braves’ soccer team. He was the team’s MVP and captain his junior and senior seasons while garnering first team all-conference and all-district accolades.

Collins and his wife, Tina, have two boys Nico and CJ.
