TOPEKA, Kan. – The Washburn Lady Blues played a double overtime 1-1 tie with Northwest Missouri on Friday night in Yager Stadium. Washburn will host Truman State at 7 p.m. Saturday in Topeka.
After playing a scoreless first half where Washburn outshot the Bearcats 8-2, the Lady Blues jumped on the board first in the second half as
Danielle Ayala scored her fifth goal of the season on an assist from
Traci Nigg from 6-yards out in front of the box in the 50th minute of play.
The Bearcats responded in the 58th minute as Marti Trummer scored her third goal of the season from 15 yards out into the lower left corner of the goal on an assist from Holly Ramaeker knotting the score at 1-1.
Neither team could put any offensive advances together in the two overtime periods as both squads had one combined shot, a head by Northwest Missouri in the second overtime.
With the tie, Washburn falls to 6-5-4 and 4-2-3 in conference play, while Northwest Missouri's record now stands at 3-9-1, 2-6-1.
Washburn held a 12 to 5 advantage in shots and an 8 to 3 margin in corner kicks.
