TOPEKA, Kan. – The Lady Blues'
Lisa Fahey scored from 10-yards out on a header in the 82nd minute to give Washburn a 1-0 win over Central Missouri in the regular season home finale. With the win, Washburn (9-5-4, 7-2-3 MIAA) climbed closer to the top of the MIAA, four points behind Truman and one point behind Central Missouri (10-3-2, 8-2-1 MIAA) in the conference race. Washburn will travel next weekend to take on Missouri Southern on Friday and Southwest Baptist next Saturday to wrap up the regular season.
Fahey's fifth goal of the season came on a free kick from
Traci Nigg after the Jennies were whistled for a handball.
Jenny Persons picked up the save in goal for the Lady Blues as she picked up three saves. Washburn outshot the Jennies 15 to 4 and 6 to 3 in shots on goal.
The top four teams qualify for the MIAA's postseason tournament. Truman enters the final weekend with 28 points, Central Missouri has 25, the Lady Blues are in third place with 24 and Missouri Southern and Southwest Baptist are tied for fourth with 19 points.
