BOLIVAR, Mo. -- The Washburn Lady Blues wrapped up the No.3 seed in next weekend's MIAA Postseason Soccer tournament with a 2-1 double overtime win over Southwest Baptist on
Jessica Mainz's 15th goal of the season. Washburn will take on the No. 2 seeded Truman squad at 3 p.m. on Saturday. The winners of the Washburn/Truman and Central Missouri/Southwest Baptist matches will play at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday.
The Lady Blues took the lead early in the 16th minute as
Danielle Ayala scored to put Washburn up 1-0. The goal was the only one of the first half for either team.
In the second half, both teams were scoreless until Dominie Emmanuel scored in the 77th minute to tie the score at 1-1.
After a scoreless first overtime, Mainz ended the game on an assist from Ayala sending the Lady Blues back to Topeka with the 2-1 win. It was the third overtime win for the Lady Blues all-time once a match entered extra periods as the Lady Blues are now 3-6-19 all-time. Mainz also has two of the three "golden goals."
Ashley Klone picked up the win in goal for the Lady Blues with five saves improving to 7-2-1 in net for Washburn this season.
