TOPEKA, Kan. -- For the second straight game and second straight night, Washburn played 110 minutes and finished in a tie as the Lady Blues and Missouri Southern played to a 1-1 tie. Washburn will be back in action on Oct. 4 when they play host to Emporia State at 7 p.m. in Yager Stadium.
Washburn (5-4-3, 3-2-2 MIAA) held an 20 to 5 advantage in shots in the match including a 6 to 0 advantage in both of the overtimes, but could not get any to enter the net. Washburn's best chance came in the 103rd minute as
Danielle Ayala's shot hit the right post and
Manon Englehardt's follow hit the right side of the net leading to a goal kick for the Lions.
Washburn's
Markie Gallagher's first career collegiate goal put Washburn up 1-0. Her goal was scored unassisted from 7-yards out in the 34th minute. The Lady Blues pressed the tempo in the first half as they attempted nine shots to two for the Lions (7-2-2, 4-2-1 MIAA).
Ashley Klone did not record a save in the first half as both of Missouri Southern's shots were not on goal.
The Lions' Nikki Llewellyn scored with 6:08 left in the match to knot the score at 1-1 on a free kick from 11-yards out into the upper far side corner after a Washburn foul outside the goal box.
Klone finished with one save in the match and Missouri Southern's Kaney Tyler had five saves for the Lions.
