TOPEKA, Kan. -- The Washburn Lady Blues outshot the Southwest Baptist Lady Bearcats 28 to 9, but finished with a 2-2 double overtime tie on Saturday night at Yager Stadium. With the tie, Washburn's record goes to 11-5-2 and 7-4-1 in the MIAA. It was the eighth-straight game the Lady Blues have gone without a defeat. Washburn will be back in action on Oct. 30 at Truman at 2 p.m.
Southwest Baptist scored in the 11th minute when Nicola Cousins scored her 13th goal of the season on a free kick from the left corner from 17 yards out. Washburn's
Lisa Fahey knotted the score in the 33rd minute when connected on a free kick of her own from 33 yards out. It was her second goal of the season.
Right before the break, SBU's Rhiane Mitchell scored her 14th goal of the season on an assist from Shannon Roher pushing the Lady Bearcats to a 2-1 lead.
Lauren Henry tied the score at 2-2 on her seventh goal of the season on an assist from
Jessica Mainz. It was Mainz's 21st career assist putting her in third place by herself on the MIAA's career assist chart.
Neither team would score the remainder of the game sending it into overtime. In the first overtime, Washburn outshot the Lady Bearcats 2 to 1 and held the same margin in the second overtime, but could not get the winning score.
Ashley Klone played all 110 minutes in goal for the Lady Blues as she collected three saves.
In a physical match, the teams combined for 37 fouls with SBU collecting 21 whistles. SBU was also flagged for two yellow cards.
