Lady Blues soccer team rolls to 3-0 win over Lions

JOPLIN, Mo. -- The Washburn Lady Blues improved to 12-6-2 and 9-5-1 in MIAA with a 3-0 win over Missouri Southern. The Lady Blues will wrap up the regular season at Missouri Western on Saturday night at 7 p.m. in St. Joseph.

After a scoreless first half in which the Lady Blues outshot the Lions 11 to 6, Washburn pulled away with three second half goals dominating play outshooting Missouri Southern 10 to 2 while adding a 7 to 1 advantage in corner kicks.

Danielle Ayala scored the first Lady Blues goal on an assist from Jessica Mainz on a cross in the 56th minute of play. The goal was the ninth of the season for Ayala and the assist was the eighth for Mainz, which broke the Washburn single-season record.

Keely Lambeth scored her first goal of the season on an assist from Ayala in the 75th minute of play putting Washburn up 2-0.

Ashley Taylor wrapped up the scoring for the Lady Blues in the 87th minute on a direct kick. It was her sixth goal of the season.

Ashley Klone picked up the shutout win in net for the Lady Blues collecting four saves. It was her second shutout of the season.

Ayala and Mainz each had five shots and two shots on goal.
