ST. JOSEPH, Mo. -- The Washburn Lady Blues wrapped up the regular season with a 2-0 win over Missouri Western. The Lady Blues will now await their NCAA regional assignments which will be announced at 4 p.m. on Monday. Be sure to check wusports.com for all of the information. The Lady Blues improved to 14-6-2 overall and 10-5-1 in the MIAA with over the Griffons.
Washburn scored a goal in each half as
Traci Nigg scored her second goal of the season on a direct kick in the 26th minute of the match. Washburn added a second goal in the 48th minute when
Kaydi Hooker scored for the second time of her career on a rebounded shot from
Jessica Mainz giving Mainz her ninth assist of the season adding to her single-season assist record.
Ashley Klone picked up the shutout in net for the Lady Blues picking up two saves.
Washburn outshot the Griffons 13 to 5 in the match and had a 7 to 4 advantage in corner kicks. The match was also the 85th career start for Mainz, Hooker and
Lisa Fahey, which tied the MIAA record for most career starts and matches played.
