#2 Lady Blues pick up win at #16 Barry

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- The No. 2 Washburn Lady Blues used a season-high 21 points from Janice Bright to lead them to a 67-54 win over No. 16 Barry in their first game at the Cruzin' Classic. The Lady Blues will take on Nova Southeastern on Friday at 5 p.m. CST.

In the first half, there were three lead changes with the Lady Blues taking a 28-25 lead into the halftime break. Washburn shot 53 percent from the field in the opening period and outrebounded the Buccaneers 18 to 14. All of the Lady Blues' 18 rebounds were on the offensive end.

With Washburn leading 46-38 with just under 11 minutes left, Karla Tailele hit back-to-back 3-pointers pushing Washburn's lead to 12 and Barry would get not closer than nine the rest of the way with the Lady Blues stretching the lead to as many as 15 late in the game. Washburn shot a blistering 69 percent in the second half from the field hitting 16 of 23 shots including 6 of 11 from 3-point range.

Bright scored 21 points with 11 coming in the second half. She was 8 of 11 from the field including 3 of 5 from 3-point range. Tailele finished with 12 hitting four 3-pointers in the game and Stanecia Graham scored 10 on 4 of 6 shooting.

Washburn outrebounded Barry 34 to 22 in the game. Washburn also picked up 21 assists on 26 field goals.
