Lady Blues reach 4th straight regional final with win over Central Oklahoma

CANYON, Texas -- The No. 24 ranked Washburn Lady Blues advanced to their fourth straight NCAA South Central Regional final with a 73-66 win over Central Oklahoma. The Lady Blues will take on Emporia State game on Monday night at the First United Bank Center.

Washburn (25-6) trailed by four at 32-28 with 4:30 to go in the opening half, but a four-point play by Corkey Stiger knotted the score at 32 marking the third tie of the of period. After another 3-pointer by Janice Bright, Washburn took a 35-32 lead and never looked back taking a 39-34 lead into the break.

In the second half, the Lady Blues turned up the defense holding the Bronchos (24-8) without a field goal for the 4:03 of the half as UCO was 0-5 from the field with three turnovers. During the span, the lady Blues pushed their lead to 44-34 before the bucket by the Bronchos.

Washburn eventually stretched the lead to as many as 18 at 67-49 with 4:30 to play before the Bronchos finished the game on a 15 to 6 run to close the game.

Amanda Holmes scored 14 of her career and game high 27 points in the first half as she connected on 10 of 15 shots from the field before fouling out. She notched her seventh double double of the season and the 17th of her career by adding a game-high 11 rebounds. Stiger scored 22 points on 7 of 12 shooting from the field as well as 5 of 8 from 3-point range giving her 985 for her Washburn career. Bright added 11 points and six assists for the Lady Blues.

Lizzie Brenner led the Bronchos with 21 points on 6 of 20 shooting from the field as the only UCO player to reach double figures.

Washburn shot 55 percent for the game hitting 27 of 49 attempts from the field, while they held UCO to 30 percent shooting on 18 of 60. UCO was 23 of 30 from the free throw line while Washburn hit 10 of their 12 attempts.

Washburn dominated on the boards out rebounding UCO 41 to 27. Washburn did commit 23 turnovers which led to 23 points for the Bronchos.

* Washburn is now 22-10 all-time in the NCAA Tournament.

* Washburn improved to 15-4 on NCAA neutral court games in the NCAA Tournament.

* Washburn is now 5-1 in the NCAA Tournament in the second round under head coach Ron McHenry.

* Washburn is now 10-3 against teams from the Lone Star Conference in the NCAA Tournament.

* Washburn leads the all-time series with UCO 4-0 winning twice against the Bronchos this season.
