TOPEKA, Kan. -- Washburn Rachel Steven's third set win at No. 5 singles clinched a 5-4 win over Southwest Baptist. With the win, the No. 29 ranked Lady Blues improve to 8-2 overall and 3-0 in the MIAA. Washburn will be back in action on Monday at 3 p.m. against Rockhurst at the Washburn tennis complex.
Washburn started out the match taking two of three doubles matches winning 8-2 at No. 1 doubles and 8-0 at No. 3 doubles. In singles play, SBU took the No. 2, 3 and 4 singles flights in straight sets.
Diana Goldsmith took her No. 1 singles match 6-1, 6-0 over Jolee Cook and
Lauren Harris won her match at No. 6 singles 6-1, 6-2. With the team scores tied at four wins each, Stevens took the third set tiebreaker 7-5 to lock up the win for the Lady Blues.
