JOPLIN, Mo. -- The ninth-ranked Washburn volleyball squad cruised to a 3-0 win over Missouri Southern on Tuesday night at the Young Gymnasium. Washburn took the match with set scores of 25-13, 26-24, 25-18. The Lady Blues will be back in action this Friday when they host Southwest Baptist at 7 p.m.
Washburn (28-4, 12-4 MIAA) jumped out to an 8-1 lead in set one and cruised to the set win. The second set went back-and-forth with neither team leading by more than a few points. Washburn seized control late in the set before Missouri Southern (12-17, 5-10 MIAA) rallied to tie the set at 24 all. A kill by sophomore
Mollie Lacy and an attacking error against MSSU gave the Lady Blues a two set lead.
The third and final set was much like the first with Washburn grabbing control early at 10-4. The Lady Blues extended their lead to eight at 18-10 and cruised to the 25-18 set win and the 3-0 match win.

Breanna Lewis added 11. Senior
Kate Hampson recorded 42 assists to move into fifth place on the MIAA's career assists list. Her 5,630 career assists are 11 assists shy of fourth place on the all-time list.
Renee Rheinecker led Missouri Southern with 11 kills.
