TOPEKA, Kan. -- The Washburn Lady Blues tennis team cruised to a season-opening sweep of Nebraska-Kearney at Wood Valley Tennis Center as they shutout the Lopers 9-0.

The Lady Blues' Trang Le Nguyen tossed a shutout on Marcelle Strydon winning 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles as Washburn won the six singles matches, with two Loper defaults, 10 games. The Lopers were short a player at No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles and they had an injury default at No. 3 singles.

The Lady Blues picked up both doubles wins dropping a combined four games.
