Lady Blues basketball season comes to end in regional semifinals

CANYON, Texas -- The No. 8 Washburn Lady Blues season came to an end with a 72-63 loss to Central Oklahoma in the NCAA South Central Regional semifinals in Canyon, Texas. The Lady Blues season comes to an end with a 27-5 record.

Washburn led at the break 36-33 after shooting 50 percent from the field and 6 of 11 from 3-point range led by Karla Tailele's two 3-pointers and Jessica Mainz, Janice Bright, Dayna Rodriguez and Stevi Schultz all hitting one each. Washburn did combat foul trouble in the first half with four different Lady Blues recording two fouls including three starters - Brette Ulsaker, Bright and Rodriguez.

In the second half, the Lady Blues were limited to nine field goals in the second half as they wre held to 9 of 25 shooting from the field while the Bronchos hit 16 of 30 attempts, including 6 of 10 3-point attempts.

The Lady Blues were led by Bright who scored 16 points in the game and Mainz scored 11 before fouling out late in the game. Mainz hit all six of her free throw attempts as the Lady Blues were 8 of 8 from the charity stripe.

Lizzie Brenner led the Bronchos with 24 points pacing three UCO players in double figures with Rose Anderson with 15 and Ashley Beckley with 10.

Washburn finished 22 of 51 from the field and 11 of 25 from 3-point range. UCO was 28 of 47 for a 49 percent average and hit 9 of 18 3-point attempts.
