TOPEKA, Kan. -- Washburn's
Leah Talley recorded the fourth hat trick in school history including the match-winning goal with less than five minutes remaining in the Lady Blues 4-3 win over Southwest Baptist. Washburn improves to 4-4-0 and 2-3-0 in the MIAA. Washburn will be back in action on Sept. 30 against Rockhurst in Yager Stadium at 6 p.m.
Talley's match-winner came off an assist from
Tia Stovall, who also tied a school record. Stovall had the assist on all three of Talley's goals in the match. Talley recorded the first hat trick since
Danielle Ayala recorded one against Missouri Western on Oct. 19, 2007.
Jessica Mainz owns the other two school hat tricks.
SBU took the lead to start the match on Nycole Henderson's unassisted goal at the 16:37 mark of the match. Talley knotted the score at 1-1 in the 33rd minute of the match.
Lauren Henry put Washburn up 2-1 on an assist from
Ashley Taylor in the 59th minute, however SBU tied the score in the 65th minute on a goal by Kelly Isaac.
Talley put Washburn up 3-2 on one of Stovall's three assists at the 73:33 mark of the match, but the lead was short-lived as SBU's Heidi Lewis tied the score less than three minutes later.
Talley's match-winner came at the 85:12 mark beating SBU's goalkeeper Megan Link for the go-ahead goal on Stovall's assist.
Ashley Klone picked up the win in net with three saves.
Washburn and SBU each had eight shots and 11 fouls.
