DENTON, Texas -- The 10th-ranked Washburn Lady Blues volleyball team swept through the first day of competition at the Texas Woman's Tournament with 3-0 victories over in-region foes East Central and the host school, Texas Woman's on Friday.
The Lady Blues (6-0) breezed past East Central 25-16, 25-17, 25-15. Senior setter
Kate Hampson recorded a double-double, the 39th of her career, with 28 assists and 14 digs. The Lady Tigers jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first set, but Washburn tied the set at 12, then scored 13 of the final 17 points for the 25-16 win.

Ashley Shepard led the Lady Blues attack with 10 kills and zero errors for a .667 hitting percentage. sophomore middle hitter
Mollie Lacy added eight kills and had a .538 hitting percentage.
In the nightcap, Washburn cruised to a 25-17, 25-18, 25-10 win over the host Pioneers. Hampson had a season-high 38 assists and just missed out on a second double-double with nine digs. Junior libero

Breanna Lewis led the offensive attack with 10 kills, while Lacy and Shepard added eight kills each.
The Lady Blues held their opponents to a combined .083 hitting percentage on the day. East Central hit .113, while Washburn held TWU to a .045 attack percentage.
Washburn wraps up play in the Pioneers' tournament on Saturday with matches against Texas A&M-Kingsville at 9:30 a.m. and Southwestern Oklahoma State at 2:30 p.m.
