DENTON, Texas--The 10th-ranked Washburn Lady Blues completed a sweep at the Texas Woman's Tournament with two 3-0 victories on Saturday. Washburn beat Texas A&M-Kingsville 25-14, 25-13, 25-23 and then took out Southwestern Oklahoma State 25-8, 25-12, 25-22.
Against TAMUK, sophomore middle hitter
Mollie Lacy led the WU (8-0) attack with 15 kills, while sophomore rightside hitter
Breanna Lewis added eight. Senior setter
Kate Hampson added 30 assists. The Lady Blues hit .354 as a team, while holding the Javelinas to a .065 attack percentage.
The Lady Blues blitzed SWOSU in the tournament finale on the way to their eight straight sweep to start the season.
Sophomore
Courtney Wallman led WU with nine kills, while freshman
Hillary Hughes added seven. Sophomore setter
Amanda Guess had 21 assists and Hampson added 10. Washburn hit .376 as a team with 42 kills and held the Bulldogs to a -.066 hitting percentage.
Washburn had two players named to the TWU Tournament All-Tournament team,
Mollie Lacy and
Breanna Lewis.
The Lady Blues will be back in action next weekend at the Rockhurst Fall Classic on Friday and Saturday in Kansas City, Mo.
