Ichabods notch 4th-straight MIAA win in 16-point win over Bearcats

TOPEKA, Kan. -- The Washburn Ichabods led from start to finish while recording their fourth straight win in a 78-62 victory over Northwest Missouri in Lee Arena on Wednesday night. The Ichabods (11-8, 5-7 MIAA) will travel for the first of two consecutive road games beginning at Missouri Western on Saturday night at 7:30 p.m.

The Ichabods jumped out to a 14-point lead at 24-10 prior to the second media time out and stretched the lead to as many as 19 in the first half on two different occasions before taking a 39-21 lead into the locker room at the break. Washburn shot 45 percent in the first half hitting 14 of 31 attempts while holding Northwest (9-10, 4-8 MIAA) to 8 of 22 from the field.

After halftime, the Ichabods would keep the Bearcats in a double-digit hole until Northwest cut the lead to nine at 58-49 with 6:52 remaining in the game. But back-to-back 3-pointers by Bobby Chipman and De'Andre Washington pushed the lead back to 15 and the Bearcats would not get within 12 points the rest of the game.

William McNeill scored 10 points in each half finishing with a team-high 20 points while hitting 8 of 10 free throw attempts. Washington picked up his seventh double double of the season with 19 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. Washington also added a game-high seven assists. Logan Stutz scored 11 points off the bench.

The Bearcats were led by Elijah Allen who recorded a game-high 21 points. Edriss Floyd scored 16 and Girod Adams scored 13.

Washburn finished the game shooting 50 percent from the field connecting on 24 of 48 shots finishing 4 of 10 from 3-point range. The Ichabods were also 26 of 35 from the free throw line. The 26 free throws made and 35 attempted were both season-highs for the Ichabods. Northwest heated up to 50 percent shooting in the second half finishing 20 of 46 for the game for a 44 percent average. Northwest was 17 of 22 from the free throw line.

The Ichabods held a 31 to 26 advantage on the glass and forced 14 turnovers leading to 20 points. The Ichabod bench also outscored the Bearcats 29 to 4.
