TOPEKA, Kan. -- The seventh-ranked Washburn volleyball team went 2-0 on the first day of the Lady Blues Fall Classic Friday at Lee Arena. The Lady Blues won their opener 3-1 over Dallas Baptist and then swept St. Edward's 3-0 in the nightcap.
Washburn (14-1) dropped the opening set to Dallas Baptist (8-9) 28-30, but rebounded to win the next three sets 25-19, 25-19 and 25-10 for the win.
Aubri Renshaw tied her career-high with 17 kills and added 10 digs for her second double-double of the season.
Mollie Lacy added 13 kills for WU, while
Hillary Hughes,
Breanna Lewis and
Jessica Fey all had 10 kills giving the Lady Blues five players with double-digit kills. Hughes added 18 digs for her third double-double of the season.
Amanda Guess recorded her fifth double-double of the year with 51 assists and 11 digs, while
Molly Smith had a game-high 24 digs. Krystal Wunderlich led the Lady Patriots with 14 kills, while Tyler Bradsher added 25 assists. Kaylyn Frink had a team-high 15 digs for DBU.
Washburn rolled to a 3-0 sweep of St. Edward's (7-8) in the second game of the day winning 25-19, 25-14, 25-15. Renshaw again led the Lady Blues with 12 kills, while Fey added 11. Guess had her second straight double-double with 42 assists and 10 digs.
Ashley Vander Hey and Pam Osborn led the Hilltoppers with seven kills each and Chelsea Barsamian had 24 assists. Michelle Hundt had a game-high 24 digs for SEU.
Washburn will wrap up play on Saturday with matches against Tarleton State at 1 p.m. and Angelo State at 5 p.m.
