Lady Blues soccer team wins 12th straight over Hornets in double overtime

EMPORIA, Kan. -- Washburn's Markie Gallagher scored on a header on an assist from Leah Talley leading the Lady Blues to a 1-0 double overtime win over Emporia State securing Washburn's 12th straight win over the Hornets in the series. Gallagher's goal came at the 103:36 mark of the match. Washburn will continue its road trip at Truman on Saturday with first kick scheduled for noon.

The goal was Gallagher's second of the season and third for the senior in her final match against Emporia State. She is part of the third straight senior class to go 8-0 against Emporia State in their Washburn career.

After the first 90 minutes of action, the Lady Blues (5-7-3, 5-6-2 MIAA) outshot the Hornets (1-9-5, 1-8-4 MIAA) 10 to 4 and in the overtime period the Washburn continued the pressure outshooting the Hornets 6 to 2 including 3 to 0 in the second overtime period finishing with a 16 to 6 advantage overall.

Ashley Klone picked up her 16th career shutout and her second straight collecting four saves in the match. Talley and Gallagher each had three shots overall.
