JOPLIN, Mo. -- The sixth-ranked Washburn Lady Blues resumed MIAA play with a 3-0 (25-21, 25-22, 25-18) sweep of Missouri Southern in Joplin on Tuesday night. The Lady Blues return home on Friday night at 7 p.m. against Southwest Baptist.
Washburn (17-1, 5-1 MIAA) took an early 10-9 lead in set one and never relinquished it on the way to an early 1-0 lead. The second set saw 12 ties and six lead changes. Missouri Southern (11-6, 1-4 MIAA) built a four-point lead at 19-15, but after a Washburn timeout the Lady Blues outscored the Lions 10-3 to claim the second set and a 2-0 lead.
In the third set, the Lady Blues took a 2-1 lead and never looked back opening up a lead as big as eight en route to the 25-18 set win and the 3-0 sweep. Washburn hit just .218 as a team, but held MSSU to a .130 hitting percentage.
Breanna Lewis led Washburn with 13 kills.
Mollie Lacy chipped in nine kills and
Jessica Kopp had eight.
Amanda Guess recorded her seventh double-double of the season with 22 assists and 10 digs.
Abby Wittman just missed a double -double with 12 assists and nine digs and
Molly Smith recorded a game-high 14 digs to go along with six assists of her own.
Rachel Olinyk led the Lions with 10 kills, while Elin Skei had a match-high 28 assists.
