Ichabods comeback falls short at Truman

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. -- The Washburn Ichabods were able to cut a 13-point Truman lead to four late in the second half but could not get any closer in a 83-78  loss to the Bulldogs. Washburn drops to 5-3 overall and 2-2 in MIAA play. The Ichabods will be off until Sunday, Dec. 19 when they will travel to St. Joseph, Mo., to face Missouri Western.

The Ichabods, who had their seven-game winning streak over Truman (3-5, 1-3 MIAA) snapped in the loss, led at the half by two at 36-34, fell behind 55-49 with 11:36 to go in the game before trimming the Bulldog lead back to four at 82-78 with 11 seconds to go on a 3-pointer by De'Andre Washington. Following an Ichabod timeout, Truman hit 1 of 2 free throws and the Ichabods missed their final three-point attempt as time expired on the Ichabods.

Washington led the Ichabods with a season-high 29 points on 11 of 19 shooting including 5 of 11 from 3-point range. He also added nine rebounds and six assists for the Ichabods in 38 minutes of play. Lgoan Stutz scored 12 points on 6 of 10 shooting and Jeff Reid also had 12 on 5 of 11 shooting with 2 of 5 from 3-point range.

Alex Henderon led four Bulldogs in double figures with 23 points. He finished 10 of 11 from the free throw line while adding eight rebounds. Tom Norton scored 19. Vesko Filchev had 13 and Ethan Freeman scored 10.

Truman outshot the Ichabods from the field connecting on 27 of 53 field goal attempts, including a 12 of 25 performance from behind the 3-point arc. The Ichabods were 33 of 72 from the field for a 46 percent average hitting 9 of 29 from 3-point range. However Truman was 17 of 25 from the free throw line while the Ichabods were an anemic 3 of 11 from the free throw line for a 27 percent average. The Ichabods were outrebounded by the Bulldogs 40 to 34. Washburn did only committ only five turnovers compared to 11 by Truman.
