KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Washburn Lady Blues tennis team will be the No. 2 at the MIAA Championship Tournament and will open play against Fort Hays State this Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at the Plaza Tennis Center in Kansas City. The Lady Blues are looking for their fourth MIAA Tournament title after winning the event in 1991, 2000 and 2004 after three straight runner-up finishes.
This season, the MIAA awarded a regular season champion, which went to Northwest Missouri after going 7-0 in conference play while Washburn finished 6-1 with their lone loss coming 6-3 to the Bearcats. Washburn toped Fort Hays State in its last match on April 17 in a 9-0 victory.
The winner of the Washburn/Fort Hays State match will take on the winner of the Southwest Baptist/Emporia State match on Saturday with the winner of the semifinals match advancing to the MIAA Tournament Championship match at noon on Sunday.
