KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- For the second time in a week, the Washburn Lady Blues tossed a shutout in a 5-0 over Fort Hays State in their opening match at the MIAA Tournament in Kansas City. Washburn will now advance to the semifinals at a time to be determined. Rain has forced play indoors and time for the matches will be decided later.

Last Saturday, the Lady Blues shutout Fort Hays State in the regular season finale 9-0 in Hays. In today's quarterfinal match, the Lady Blues opened with a 3-0 lead in doubles play with Trang LeNguyen and Alyssa Castillo winning at No. 1 doubles, Morgan Rainey and Whitley Zitsch winning at No. 2 doubles and Kristin McKee and Annie Doole winning at No. 3.

In singles action, Le Nguyen topped Laura Johnson 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles and Rainey defeated Milissa Skovira 6-2, 6-4 at No. 2 singles to wrap up the match. Zitsch was winning 5-1 in the first set before play was halted.

Washburn will take on the winner of the Southwest Baptist/Emporia State match in the semifinals. Once times are announced they will be added to the wusports.com website.
