TOPEKA, Kan. -- The No. 27-ranked Washburn Ichabods fell to 21st-ranked Northwest Missouri 5-4 on Thursday afternoon at the Washburn Tennis Courts. The Ichabods fall to 9-6 overall and 2-1 in MIAA play. Washburn will be back in action on Saturday against Nebraska-Omaha in Topeka.

WU led 2-1 after doubles play thanks to wins at No. 1 and 2 doubles. The team of Ryan Ward and Simon Blondin recorded an 8-4 win at No. 1 over Malcolm Harrison and Daniel Quesada. Branden Joost and Adam Rens scored an 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles.

Joost picked up a win at No. 1 singles, 6-4, 7-5 over Harrison and Ward won 6-4, 6-2 over Vijit Sehgal. The Bearcats, however, won the remaining four singles matches, including a 6-3, 5-7, 7-5 win by Felipe Gennari  at No. 3 singles to clinch the win.
