ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- The No. 4- ranked Washburn Lady Blues improved to 6-0 with a pair of wins on the first day of the UMSL Triton Classic topping Arkansas-Fort Scott 3-1 while handing Harding a 3-0 loss. The Lady Blues will wrap up the event on Saturday with Southern Indiana at 11:30 a.m. and Illinois-Springfield at 4:30 p.m.
In the first match of the tournament against Arkansas-Fort Smith, the Lady Blues won the first two sets 25-21 and 25-11 before dropping the third set 25-20 before closing out the match with a 25-21 score in the fourth set. In the second set in the 25-11 win, the Lady Blues jumped out to a 22-6 lead before closing out the set.
Aubri Renshaw led the Lady Blues with a career high 17 kills pacing a total of four Washburn hitters in double figures followed by
Breanna Lewis with 15, which also tied a career high,
Mollie Lacy with 14 and
Jessica Fey with 11.
Amanda Guess recorded a career high 45 assists.
Molly Smith had 12 digs to lead Washburn.
In the 25-18, 25-20, 25-15 win over Harding, the Lady Blues held the Lady Bisons to a .087 hitting percentage while Washburn hit at a .368 mark connecting on 41 kills in 95 attempts with only six errors in the win. Lewis led the Lady Blues with 10 kills in 17 attempts with a solo error for a .529 hitting percentage. Guess led the team with 25 assists and Smith recorded 17 digs.
