#3 Lady Blues open MIAA play with sweep over Bearcats

TOPEKA, Kan. -- The No. 3-ranked Washburn Lady Blues swept Northwest Missouri 3-0 winning 25-12, 25-17, 25-13 in their MIAA opener in Lee Arena on Tuesday night to improve to 9-0 on the season. Washburn will be back in Friday at No. 16 Truman prior to taking on Missouri Western on Saturday.

The Lady Blues' Breanna Lewis had five of her nine kills in the first set as Washburn would build a lead to as many as 10 in the opening stanza. In the second set, Jessica Fey had five kills en route to a match-high 11 kills leading to the 25-17 second set win. The third set saw the Lady Blues cruise to a 23-9 lead wrapping up the match with the 25-13 win.

Fey recorded a .474 hitting percentage with the 11 kills and two errors in 19 attempts. Lewis finished with a .643 hitting percentage with nine kills in 14 swings. Hillary Hughes added nine kills and Molly Lacy had seven kills with no errors in 10 swings. Amanda Guess had 36 assists to lead the Lady Blues and Molly Smith recorded 16 digs in the match.

Alex Hanna led the Bearcats with seven kills.
