Lady Blues travel to face Bearcats; return home for Hornets

Setting the Scene:
The Washburn Lady Blues soccer team will hit the road for a single match before returning home for a two-match home stand starting with Northwest Missouri in Maryville on Thursday and Emporia State on Saturday in Topeka. Washburn (1-3-1, 1-1-0 MIAA) is coming off a 1-0 win over Missouri Western last time out.

About Northwest Missouri
Northwest Missouri notes: The Bearcats are 1-3-2 (1-2-1 MIAA) this season picking up their first win of the season in a 1-0 win over Emporia State.

About the coach: Head coach Tracy Hoza is 39-68-14 in her eighth season as the Bearcats' head coach.

About the Bearcats: The Bearcats have been outshot 18 to 8 this season and outscored 7 to 3 this year. Hannah Silvey, Emilee Davison, Kelly Obley each have goals for Northwest this season. In goal, Kelsey Adams has a 1.05 goal against average garnering 36 saves in nearly 600 minutes of play.

Series history with the Bearcats: The Lady Blues lead the all-time series 9-2-3. Five of the last seven matches have been shutout wins for the Lady Blues with the lone goal for the Bearcats was in a 1-1 double overtime tie on Oct. 12, 2007 in Topeka. The Lady Blues are 4-2-1 all-time in matches in Maryville.

Last meeting with Northwest Missouri: Oct. 17, 2010 - TOPEKA, Kan. -- Washburn's Keeley Lambeth scored on a crossing pass from Tia Stovall 2:02 into overtime as the Lady Blues topped Northwest Missouri 1-0 to improve to 6-0 in Yager Stadium on homecoming Saturday in Yager Stadium.
After a scoreless first two halves where the teams attempted only a combined 12 shots, the Lady Blues needed only 122 seconds to wrap up the match. The assist was Stovall's eighth of the season, one shy of the school record of nine held by Jessica Mainz set last season.
Ashley Klone picked up the shutout win -- her fourth of the season. Klone recorded one save in net while facing four Bearcat shots.
The Lady Blues outshot the Bearcats 10 to 4 and had seven corner kicks compared to two for Northwest Missouri. Washburn committed 13 fouls while the Bearcats picked up four.
About Emporia State
Emporia State notes: The Hornets are 0-4-1 (0-3-0 MIAA)  this season entering a Thursday afternoon match at Truman.

About the coach: Jim Schneiderhahn is 8-70-4 in his fifth year at ESU and 47-114-10 in his tenth year as a head coach. He came to ESU after serving as an assistant coach at Tulane University. He was the head coach at Benedictine from 2000-04. He holds a United State Soccer Federation (USSF) National “A” Coaching License.

About the Hornets: The Hornets have been outshot 79 to 35 this season while being outscored 12 to 3 in their five matches while looking for their first win of the season. They have been outscored 7 to 1 in the second half this year. Ashley Hill, Holli Shcletzbaum and Catie Hyde have the three goals for ESU this season. In goal, Katrina Goscha has a 1.83 goal against average with 10 saves in 148 minutes of play.

Series history with the Hornets: The Lady Blues lead the all-time series 10-3-1 and have won the last 10 matches in the series with the last three coming in 2-1 victories. The last win in the series for ESU was on Nov. 7, 2004 in a 2-0 in Topeka.

Last meeting with Emporia State: Nov. 11, 2009 -- EMPORIA, Kan. -- The Washburn Lady Blues swept the season series while topping Emporia State for the 10th straight match in a 2-1 in Emporia.
Neither team scored in the first as Washburn outshot Emporia State 9-6. In the second half, Keeley Lambeth scored her third goal of the season as her shot sailed over the goalkeeper's head in the 74th minute of the match.
Tia Stovall scored her fifth of the season when she put a pass from Ashley Taylor into the back of the net at the 82:40 mark of the match.
Emporia State scored their only goal of the match in the 88th minute when Tina Commons scored her second goal of the season unassisted.
Washburn's Ashley Klone picked up the win in net for the Lady Blues collecting two saves while facing 11 shots.

Last time out for the Lady Blues:
Sept. 18, 2010 -- ST. JOSEPH, Mo. -- The Washburn Lady Blues soccer team picked up their first win of the season with a 1-0 decision over Missouri Western.
Freshman Rachel Hansen scored off an assist from Lindsey Lambert in the 66th minute giving the Lady Blues the win. Ashley Klone picked up the shutout win in goal with six saves.
WU was outshot 6-0 in the first 45 minutes, but responded with 11 shots in the second half.

Lady Blues Soccer History:
Washburn is 72-54-23 (.560) all-time in its eighth season of competing. In MIAA play, the Lady Blues are 49-40-16 (.537). In home matches, the Lady Blues are 34-19-10 and they are 31-30-10 on the road. In matches on neutral sites, the Lady Blues are 7-5-3.
