Gene Cassell/Assistant Athletic Director for Communications Ichabods get defensive in win over SBU 1/5/2011 9:43:01 PM Box Score | Season Stats | Photos TOPEKA, Kan. -- The Washburn Ichabods rolled to its fourth straight win over Southwest Baptist in Lee Arena holding the Bearcats to 33 points below their season average in a 77-53 win Wednesday night (Jan. 5). Washburn (7-4, 4-3 MIAA) will be in action on Saturday in Joplin, Mo., facing Missouri Southern. In the first half the Ichabods led by as many as 19 points at 33-14 before the Bearcats would hit their second and third 3-pointers of the half on back-to-back attempts by Tomas Brock cutting the lead to eight at 34-26 capping a 12-1 Bearcat run. Logan Stutz pushed the lead back to 10 at 36-26 with six seconds remaining on a tip in layup sending the Ichabods to the locker rooms at the break with the 10 point lead. Washburn was 14 of 34 from the field in the first half hitting 41 percent of its shots while holding Southwest Baptist to 9 of 25 from the field and 3 of 10 from 3-point range for a 36 percent overall shooting percentage. Washburn also held a 24 to 12 advantage on the glass in the opening stanza while converting 10 offensive rebounds into 11 second chance points. Three times in the second half SBU cut the Ichabod lead to 10 points but could not get any closer as Washburn used a 12-0 run over a six minute stretch in the half to put the game out of reach building its lead to as many as 27 in the half at 70-46 in the win. Washburn kept the pressure on the Bearcats in the second half holding SBU to 11 of 30 from the field and 5 of 19 from 3-point range. Overall the Bearcats finished 8 of 29 from long range and they entered the game averaging 36 a game while connecting on an average of 14 per game. The Ichabods were led by Stutz who had a game-high 19 points with his second straight double double adding 10 rebounds. De'Andrew Washington scored 14 to go with eight assists and five rebounds. Jeff Reid had a career-high nine rebounds with five on the offensive end while adding eight points and three assists. Nate Daniels had nine points and four steals. Brock was the only Bearcat to reach double figures scoring 11 points. The Ichabods dominated on the glass outrebounding the Bearcats 46 to 25 including an 18 to 6 advantage on the offensive end turning the 18 offensive rebounds into 24 second chance points. Washburn also outscored the Bearcats 40 to 22 in the paint.
