Caysie Beetley's header in the first half held until Northwest Missouri scored twice in the final 12 minutes to give Washburn a 2-1 loss in MIAA action at Yager Stadium Saturday night.
The Lady Blues (1-9-2, 1-2-1 MIAA) will play another home game Tuesday at 6 p.m. against Missouri Southern.
Tia Stovall sent a pass from midfield to
Leah Talley on the left side. She dribbled it near the Bearcat endline and passed it wide of the net to Beetley. Beetley headed it in from five yards out for her second goal of the year to give Washburn a 1-0 lead at the 27:33 mark.
The Lady Blues led the first half in shots, 4-2 and three of their shots were on goal. The Bearcats broke through in the second half, piling on 11 shots while Washburn got just three.
A scrum just in front of the goal at the 77:59 mark resulted in Northwest Missouri's first goal. Victoria Von Mende was able to knock it in for her ninth goal of the year.
Fiona Moloney got the game-winner with just three minutes remaining. Elizabeth Walde sent a pass forward from midfield and WU goalkeeper
Tori Fuglister came out too far on it. Moloney was able to control it and send it to the back of an open net.
Washburn had a chance late when
Lauren Henry sent a shot off NWMSU keeper Kelsey Adams' hands with just under two minutes remaining.
Beetley led Washburn with three shots and two on goal. Four others each had one shot. Fuglister made six saves and Adams had three.
