MARYVILLE, Mo. - Another balanced offense helped Washburn to a 25-13, 25-16, 25-20 win at Northwest Missouri Tuesday night as they improved to 9-1 overall and stayed perfect in the MIAA at 2-0.
The sixth-ranked Lady Blues will return home Friday to host Truman at 7 p.m. and then host Missouri Western Saturday at 2 p.m. Both matches are at Lee Arena.
Hillary Hughes led Washburn with nine kills and she hit .364 in the match as WU hit .295 as a team.
Jessica Fey had eight kills and led the team with four blocks.
The Bearcats hit -.143 in the first set and after they gave up an 8-1 run early on they never regrouped. The Lady Blues hit .429 in the second set to counter Northwest Missouri's .205 percentage, its best of the night.
Abby Wittman set 20 assists to lead the offense and
Amanda Guess added 11 off the bench. Hughes also led the defense with eight digs and Guess got seven, as did
Jessica Kopp.
