Mollie Lacy had a pair of double-figure kill matches and she moved 10 kills away from joining the 1,000 kill club as the fifth-ranked Lady Blues swept their final two matches Saturday at the Midwestern State Hampton Innvitational. Washburn beat Nova Southeastern, 25-23, 25-22, 25-14 in the morning match and then topped host MSU, 25- 25-19, 25-17, 25-23 in the afternoon.
The Lady Blues won all four matches in their season-opening tournament for the 10th straight time, all under 10-year coach
Chris Herron. They will look to continue their winning streak Friday when they play Colorado-Colorado Springs and West Florida in the first day of the Colorado Premier Challange.
Lacy had 16 kills and hit .481 in the opener and then she added 11 kills with a .421 attack percentage in the second game. She now has 990 career kills and will look to become the 14th member of Washburn's 1,000 kill club.
Abby Wittman had double-doubles in both matches. She had 27 assists and 10 digs against Nova Southeastern and then 21 assists and 15 digs against MSU.
Courtney Churchman added a double-double against the Mustangs with 10 assists and 22 digs.

Hillary Hughes reached double figures in kills against MSU and both came one dig shy of double-doubles with nine each.
The Sharks played Washburn close in the first two sets, tying the Lady Blues at 20-20 in the opener and 21-21 in the second set. Washburn used big runs to close out both sets and then in the third a 12-0 run midway through the set put it out of reach.
The clinching set of the MSU match wasn't as easy. The Mustangs were looking to force a fourth set with a 23-18 lead but Washburn scored seven straight points to win.
